Eric Stephens of the OC Register: Manson on his new contract.

“In a way, I definitely wanted to get it done before the season started,” Manson said. “I know it was something the Ducks had mentioned they wanted to do as well. Try to kind of get it all sorted out before the season got going.

“It is a little bit of a relief to have it done with and now I can focus a little bit more on the team and the season going forward here.”

The Ducks put Patrick Eaves and Ryan Miller on the IR. Eaves has been out with a lower-body injury. Miller has been out since September 25th with an upper-body injury.

Ryan Getzlaf has a lower-body injury and is questionable for their season opener tonight.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

Jamie Thomas: The Jets and Nikolaj Ehlers agree on a seven-year contract worth $42 million – a $6 million salary cap hit.

Scott Billeck: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff: “Contract came together relatively quickly. Good, open dialogue right from the onset.”

Ken Wiebe: In the final three seasons of his deal, Ehlers has a modified no-trade clause – a ten team list.

On the Nashville Predators …

Adam Vingan: The Predators signed Harry Zolnierczyk to a one-year, two-way deal.

On the Minnesota Wild …

Stephen Whyno: The Wild sign Daniel Winnik to a one-year deal at $660,000.

On the Calgary Flames …

Derek Willis: Jaromir Jagr will likely practice with the Flames today. It’s not known yet when he’ll make his debut.

John Grigg: “368 players on opening-night rosters this year (52% of the league) weren’t born when Jagr made his #NHL debut on Oct. 5, 1990.”

On the Chicago Blackhawks …

Chicago Blackhawks: The Blackhawks sign defenseman Cody Franson to a one-year deal.

On the Los Angeles Kings …

Jon Rosen: Believe that defenseman Alec Martinez has a lower-body injury. Paul LaDue being recalled.
