The Jets get Josh Morrissey signed
Jason Bell: The Winnipeg Jets signed restricted free agent defenseman Josh Morrissey to a two-year deal at $6.3 million, a $3.15 million salary cap hit.
Cap Friendly: After the signing up Morrissey, the Jets have all their RFAs signed and have $7,089,170 in salary cap space with 22 roster players – 12 forwards, 8 defense, and two goalies.
Victor Rask could be out for months
Chip Alexander: Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said that forward Victor Rask could be out for months after a serious injury, cut tendons and fingers while cooking at home.
Zach Werenski being held out of contract
Aaron Portzline: The Columbus Blue Jackets have been holding defenseman Zach Werenski (shoulder) out of contact situations for the start of training camp.
Dmitri Sergeev’s contract terminated
Lou Korac: The St. Louis Blues and Dmitri Sergeev have agreed to mutually terminate his contract. He’s now a free agent.
Jeremy Rutherford: Coach Mike Yeo said last week that Sergeev didn’t meet their conditioning standards.
Melker Karlsson not talking contact
Curtis Pashelka: San Jose Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said that forward Melker Karlsson has an upper-body injury that he’s been dealing with for a good part of the summer. He’s not taking contact yet.
Travis Sanheim leaves in the first favoring his shoulder
Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Daily News: Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim left yesterday’s game in the first period after a taking a hit from Matt Martin. Sanheim landed awkwardly on his shoulder and favored it as he went to the locker room.
The Flyers are already without defenseman Andrew MacDonald. He’ll miss the first week or two of the regular season.
If Sanheim’s injury keeps him out for a while, it opens the door for Philippe Myers.
