Murray Pam: The Ottawa Senators sign center Chase Balisy to a one-year, two-way deal with a $650,000 NHL salary, $135,000 in the AHL. He was with the Panthers organization last year. The Bruins were believed to have some interest in him.

Hunter returns to London

Sportsnet: Former Toronto Maple Leafs assistant GM Mark Hunter is returning to the London Knights (OHL) to be their GM. Mark and his brother Dale own the team. Mark was their GM for 14 years before he joined the Leafs.

Rob Simpson had been their GM since 2016 and will now be their associate GM.

“Rob and I will be working together every day in order to achieve the goals of our organization,” Hunter said in a statement.

“He has done an outstanding job in all facets of his position and I look forward to continuing to work with him on all elements within our organization.”

On Larkin’s new deal and Zetterberg’s back issues

With Dylan Larkin signed for 5 years at $6.1M by the Detroit #Redwings, we now show the club as projected at $3.27M above the upper limit with a roster of 21 (13F-6D-2G)

Craig Custance: Dylan Larkin’s salary breakdown:

2018-19: $1 million signing bonus. $5.75 million base
2019-20: $7 million base
2020-21: $4.75 million – (potential lockout)
2021-22: $6.75 million
2022-23: $5.25 million (no-trade clause)

Cap Friendly: “Larkin’s camp making full use of the 35% year-to-year variance permitted in front loaded deals with a $2.25M drop from year two to year three (potential lockout year).”

Dana Wakiji: Red Wings GM Ken Holland on re-signing Larkin: “In Dylan’s case, he’s been here for three full seasons. He led our team in scoring, has been selected to play for USA the last two world championships. His resume is a little more accomplished and that’s why we signed him to a longer-term commitment.”

Stefan Kubus: GM Holland on their salary cap space: “Obviously we’re gonna have to make some decisions as we go forward.”

Helene St. James: GM Holland on Henrik Zetterberg: “I am anxious to know where Henrik Zetterberg is at. He’s a bit of an unknown as far as health. Have talked to his agent – he has had tough summer. He hasn’t been able to train anywhere near where at past summers. I’m hoping he’ll play.”

Jason Gregor: St. James on Zetterberg: “It doesn’t sound good. He hasn’t been able to train the way he wants and right now it looks like he won’t be playing this year.”
