NHL News: The Calgary Flames And Matthew Tkachuk Agree On A Three-Year Bridge Deal

The Calgary Flames and Matthew Tkachuk agree on a three-year bridge deal

Ryan Leslie: The Calgary Flames and RFA forward Matthew Tkachuk agreed on a three-year bridge contract with an AAV of $7 million.

Darren Dreger: Tkachuk will get $9 million in the third year of the deal.

Bob McKenzie: “So, with a Year 4 QO of $9M, this could be a four-year, $30M deal that walks Tkachuk to UFA. Obviously, CGY will try to lock him up on long term deal in two years.”

With Matthew Tkachuk signed for $7M x 3 years, we now show the Calgary #Flames projected $650k over the cap.

The Flames have until the start of the season to get below the limit, which is possible by going with a roster of 22 or less players.https://t.co/VtlQquXnM6 pic.twitter.com/ffrXQquPU2

Cap Friendly: “Another option available to the #Flames is to place defenseman Valimaki on LTIR allowing the team to exceed the upper limit by up to a maximum of $894k (his cap hit). The detriment of this option is the club will not be accruing cap space while they exceed the limit”

Thoughts from the media

Ryan Leslie: “There was concern a new deal for tkachuk meant having to subtract from the roster. This new deal means that may not be the case. Good news for flames fans.”

Bob McKenzie: “Safe to say Brayden Point’s deal in TB was a catalyst in getting things going for CGY and Tkachuk.”

Kristen Anderson: “#Flames officially announce the signing of Matthew Tkachuk, a 3-year deal worth $7-million per which is just a hair over the highest plaid Flames (Giordano & Gaudreau at $6.75). I believe this is a solid, reasonable deal for both sides. The player can bet on himself somewhat.”

Luke Fox: “Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau’s contracts both come due in the same summer. Flames banking on that U.S. TV money upping the cap in 2022.”

Frank Seravalli: “Tkachuk ends up with a higher AAV than Point, but $1.02m less overall in his pocket over term of deal with taxes.”

Tkachuk signs for $7 mil x 3 yrs.
His xG share was strong last year (as was the case for most CGY fwds). He was the team’s 4th-best FWD by WAR. He facilitates shots for teammates and his shots map shows he’s net-front presence who creates high-quality shots for himself too. pic.twitter.com/2x9lbaExnj
