Gretzky traded 30 years ago
TSN: Today is the 30th anniversary of the Wayne Gretzky trade from the Edmonton Oilers to the Los Angeles Kings.
“I don’t really talk about it much,” he said. “It happened. It is part of life and part of history. It seems like it was 10 years and then 25 years and now here we are at 30 years. I’m sure at 35 years I will get asked the same questions, but I don’t talk much about it. Everybody pretty much knows what transpired, and that is that.
“It was as much as a surprise to me as to anybody else that I was traded, but that is a part of sports.”
The Oilers traded Gretzky, Mike Krushelnyski, and Marty McSorley for the Kings for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, 1989 first round pick (#18 – Jason Miller), 1991 first round pick (#20 – Martin Rucinsky), 1993 first round pick (#16 – Nick Stajduhar) and cash considerations ($15 million).
Chyrchrun cleared to return to the ice

Suter hopeful to be ready for training camp
Dan Myers of Wild.com: Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter returned to the ice three weeks ago. He had surgery in the spring to repair a fractured right fibula and a bone in his ankle. Some thought that his career could have been over, but now he’s hoping to be ready for training camp.
“Honestly, that motivates me,” Suter said. “I like doubters. When people say, ‘You probably won’t be ready for camp,’ that just makes me angry. I might not be, but I’m sure as heck going to try as hard as I can.
“The way I feel right now, I feel like I’m going to be ready for camp.”
Tarasenko expects to be ready for the start of training camp
Tom Timmerman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko has resumed skating and is expecting to be ready for the start of training camp.
Tarasenko had offseason surgery to a repair a separated shoulder that he suffered in their final regular season game.
“I need to talk about it with the doctors more,” he told the team’s website, “but I’m cleared to skate with the group, but only with some contact right now. But I can shoot. I feel great and I feel stronger. I’m ready for the season.”
