On the Winnipeg Jets and Jacob Trouba …
Craig Custance: The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenseman Jacob Trouba to a two-year contract worth $6 million – $2.5 million this season and $3.5 million next year.
Some thoughts from the media on the deal …
Jeff Marek: “This deal makes Trouba an easier player to move.”
Ted Wyman: “Not surprised by the fact Trouba has signed with #NHLJets nor by bridge deal. Dollar amounts are surprising though. Now, where does he play?”
Eric Engels: “Can’t think of a team w more incentive to get Trouba than Boston. My thought:What if the Bruins gave up a couple of fwd prospects and Chara?”
Eric Engels: “If I were WPG, and could get Chara, Spooner and a 1st, I’d trade Trouba to Boston. Chara would have to waive NMC. Only 1 yr left (salary 4M)”
Jason Gregor: “Trouba sits out and signs a two-year bridge deal worth $2.5 mill this year and $3.5 mill next. Jets held firm. Big win for them.”
Chris Johnston: “Important to remember — Jacob Trouba is now eligible to sign an extension on this contract as soon as July 1.”
Darren Dreger: “2 year bridge for Trouba back to Jets. $2.5 mil and 3.5 mil. Cheveldayoff and Trouba met in Det last week.”
Darren Dreger: “Winnipeg has to be happy with this deal. Gets Trouba back. Worry about long term another day. Returning to NHL best for Trouba as well.”
NHL Numbers: “If $6M over two years is correct, Trouba will be tied with Stephane Robidas for the NHL’s 105th highest cap hit among defencemen in 2016-17.”
Shawn Simposon: “Trouba takes a Ceci like contract. Bad advice. Should have signed in the summer. Does he stay, or does he go?”
Gregg Krupa: “While deal makes trouba easier to move, #RedWings still lack players winnipeg wants. meanwhile, trouba could well stick in winnipeg, now.”
Steve Lloyd: “Have to wonder if it plays out like it did for Turris. Same agent. Come back and play, and we’ll trade you at some point.”
