NHL Rumors: Alex Burrows, and the Anaheim Ducks
Alex Burrows celebrates a goal against the Anaheim Ducks

On the Vancouver Canucks …

  • Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Canucks winger Alex Burrows denied the Elliotte Friedman’s report that he’d waive his no-trade clause if the Canucks asked him.

“I learned about it after the (Saturday) game,” said Burrows. “Obviously, I think Elliotte had the same game as we had — not a very good night — because there’s no truth to that. I’ve never talked to management or coaches about it or to teammates. Last time I talked to my agent was to wish him Merry Christmas. The (trade) deadline is in two weeks and you might try to get a rumour out there and see what happens.

“Sometimes the media has it right and sometimes wrong.”

Burrows has a year left on his contract at $4.5 million. Burrows on if Benning approaches him about waiving his no trade clause.

“Then you’ve got to talk to my agent and I’ve got to talk to my wife because we love it here,” stressed Burrows. “I’ve always wanted to stay here, even if the team is in a rebuild mode because I want to be a part of it. When I signed my contract, I wanted to be here forever and that hasn’t changed. I want to be impactful and successful, and you want to be a good teammate and help the young guys grow. I like to believe I can help in that way.”

Canucks GM Jim Benning remains in a wait-and-see mode as the deadline approaches. He can trade pending UFAs Dan Hamhuis and Radim Vrbata to continue his re-shaping of the Canucks.

On the Anaheim Ducks …

  • Eric Stephens of the OC Register: Frederik Andersen could be a starting goalie on a number of teams, and he could be one of the more attractive pieces available at the trade deadline. The Ducks signed John Gibson to a three-year deal this past offseason, and Andersen’s two year deal expires at the end of this season. Andersen on the upcoming deadline.

“It’s a fair question,” Andersen said. “We have two good goalies. (You’re) always going to look for using assets in whatever way. It’s nothing that’s in my control. You can’t worry about that stuff. It’s cliché but you really can’t. That’s never going to do anything good.”

The Ducks may look to keep Andersen around in case Gibson suffers another injury (currently has an upper-body injury). Anton Khudobin is third on their depth chart.
