On the Vancouver Canucks …
- Brad Ziemer: Would have to think that the Canucks could think about buying Alex Burrows out this offseason.
On the Arizona Coyotes …
- Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: Coyotes GM Don Maloney reached out to Mikkel Boedker’s camp on Sunday night to see if they could reach a last minute deal. It became clear they wouldn’t be able to reach a deal, and Maloney shipped him to Colorado.
“We’ve had differences of opinions I guess the last two talks,” said Boedker’s agent, Jarrett Bousquet of Titan Sports Management. “That’s just normal course of business. Agents and management sometimes have difference of opinions. It wasn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last time. I understand their challenges completely, and I think they did their best.
“The negotiations always were professional and cordial. Talks were always open-minded, and I think Don was always open to a call from me. I was always open for a call from him. He did call late the night before (the deadline). We had a good conversation. Just didn’t find the common ground, and it’s unfortunate that it ended up the way it did. But that’s just part of it. It’s nobody’s fault.”
A source was saying that the Coyotes made an off of five or six years at around $5 million per season. Both sides talked deals that were short, mid-range and long-term.
“It wasn’t about greed,” Boedker said. “It wasn’t about money or anything like that because once that comes into play, I don’t think I show the person I am. I’m not a greedy person.”
…
“You want to win, and you want to make the best of every situation,” Boedker said. “We were close one year, and we haven’t been close since and that’s something that definitely weighs on the decision.”
