The Ducks need offense, skill, speed, etc.

Eric Stephens of The Athletic: (before Montour trade) The Anaheim Ducks need offense, skill, more speed and creativity, a finisher, a forward who can play on the wing or at center.

They’ll eventually need a star to replace Ryan Getzlaf.

A tank job could land them a better lottery shot at Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko.

Winger Nick Ritchie might become a trade asset.

The signing of Jakob Silfverberg may make Adam Henrique available. Henrique’s five-year, $5.825 million cap hit deal hasn’t even kicked in yet. July 1st his 10-team no-trade clause kicks in.

There was speculation that the San Jose Sharks could be interested in Ryan Miller.

Red Wings dealing with tire-kickers (well not really anymore)

Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News: (written before Nyquist trade to San Jose) Tire kicking seems to be continuing. Pending UFAs Gustav Nyquist and Jimmy Howard interest some teams.

Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland:

“Do I get lots of calls about lots of people? Yes, but I don’t know what that means,” Holland said. “I don’t know if somebody’s (a prospective acquisition) ninth on their depth chart, if he’s second on their depth chart. So what ends up happening from a managerial perspective is you call around.

“I call it tire-kicking. You start to talk about players, Have I got teams kicking tires? Yes, I don’t know what the tire-kicking means. I’m going to know between now and Monday.”

It’s not sounding like Nyquist and/or Howard will have an extension in place by the deadline

“I would say to you that (we’re) just going to see what happens on the trade front between now and Monday,” Holland said.

The San Jose Sharks are one team that may tire-kick on Howard, but both the Wings and Howard seem to want to stay together.
