Flames and Hanifin still working on a deal

Kristen Anderson: Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving said that he’s confident a deal with Noah Hanifin will be done before the start of training camp. Contract talk is positive with Treliving adding “It’ll get done, but it’s just not done yet.”

Predators still have cap space

James O’Brien of NBC Sports: Nashville Predators GM David Poile has a history of making big trades, and the Predators have over $7.5 million in salary cap heading into the season.

The Predators wouldn’t even have to move out salary if they went after Erik Karlsson, Max Pacioretty, Artemi Panarin or Tyler Seguin.

The Predators have some prospects that could interest teams. Would they be willing to include Dante Fabbro or Eeli Tolvanen?

Pacioretty should be a bargain at $4.5 million

Adam Gretz of NBC Sports: There have been reports that the Montreal Canadiens weren’t going to negotiate a new contract for Max Pacioretty. It’s not known when the Canadiens will end up moving him as he enters the final year of his deal.

He should bounce back this season, and at a $4.5 million salary cap hit, he’ll be a bargain for the Canadiens or some other team.

Oilers should hold on to center and right wing depth

Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal: If looking for a replacement for injured defenseman Andrej Sekeras, it may not make sense for the Edmonton Oilers to give up depth at center or on the right side by moving Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jesse Puljujarvi, or Kailer Yamamoto. They have more depth on the left side that they could draw from.

Could the Oilers trade some like Drake Caggiula and a draft pick for someone like Justin Faulk, who is making $4.8 million to be on their third pairing? Faulk carries a $6 million salary and has a modified no-trade clause. (Leavins notes that he is just spit-balling this).

There are no unrestricted free agents out there that would be a Sekera replacement.
