NHL Rumors: Coyotes, Doan, Canadiens and Blues

On the Arizona Coyotes and Shane Doan …

Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: Arizona Coyotes GM John Chayka was vague on his update on Shane Doan contract talks.

“Negotiations continue,” he said. “There are just a lot of balls in the air with our entire team; a lot of liquidity in our market. Once we get a little more clarity on where everything fits then it makes it a lot easier to get Shane in the right spot.”

There was a report last week that the Coyotes asked Doan to take “a big pay cut” and that they weren’t close to a deal.

The Coyotes are wanting to add a scoring forward and are still interested in Kevin Shattenkirk.

After their offseason shopping is done, are they really going to play hardball with Doan over a couple million or less? Done made around $4.5 million last year with a $5.3 million cap hit. Morgan adds:

Doan has given blood, sweat and tears to this team, this organization, this fan base and this community. He has stood by it, through thick and thin, even when he had opportunities to walk away for better money and a better opportunity to chase a Stanley Cup. In spite of this ongoing contract impasse, he was still there selling Goligoski on the merits of this organization. That, in a nutshell, tells you who Shane Doan is.

On the Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues …

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: The Montreal Canadiens have spoken with UFA Dale Weise and are interested in bringing him back. Other teams have also spoken with Weise’s camp. GM Marc Bergevin would only want to bring him back if the price is right.

Signs pointing to Vladimir Sobotka returning to the St. Louis Blues next year. He owes the Blues one year at $2.725 million.
