On the Chicago Blackhawks …
Chris Hine: Source saying that the Teuvo Teravainen trade helped push Nick Schmaltz to leave North Dakota early and sign his deal with the Blackhawks.
On the Buffalo Sabres and Jimmy Vesey …
Nick Filipowski: From Jimmy Vesey’s agent: “Jimmy’s intent at this time has not changed and is prepared to become a free agent on August 15.”
On the Edmonton Oilers …
Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: The Oilers likely aren’t happy that the Ducks re-signed Sami Vatanen and that the Avs have said that they don’t plan on trading Tyson Barrie.
There isn’t a big need for the Hurricanes to trade Justin Faulk. Matheson has wondered about a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Andrej Sekera for Faulk and Elias Lindholm trade, but it doesn’t appear to have any legs.
A Zach Bogosian for Jordan Eberle has been thrown out there by some, but it might not work for the Oilers.
The Oilers and Sabres do appear to be good trading partners for the No. 4 and No. 8 picks. The Sabres covet Matthew Tkachuk and the Oilers could take Mikhail Sergachev at No. 8, but there is there no guarantee that he’d be there. Tyler Ennis, Zemgus Girgensons or Mark Pysyk could be involved.
The Ducks wouldn’t move Hampus Lindholm for a top left winger.
Cam Fowler could be in play, but he’s a left handed shot. The Ducks are looking for a left winger, but alone Fowler wouldn’t be enough for Taylor Hall. Oilers may want someone like Rickard Rakell, Jakob Silfverberg or Nick Ritchie.
David Staple of the Edmonton Journal: Matthew Coller on WGR 550 radio recently said that the Oilers were interested in Zach Bogosian.
“The former No. 3 overall pick has significant trade value. A source said the Edmonton Oilers have shown interest since last season. Bogosian is fast, physical and has the ability to produce points.”
Bogosian has a no-movement clause and would have to be protected in an expansion draft.
