Makes sense for the Bruins to look at Panarin, but the cost?
Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports: It makes sense that the Boston Bruins are interested Columbus Blue Jackets Artemi Panarin. Panarin is a scoring winger, a playmaker and that the Bruins need.
Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy on the trade deadline early this week brought up last year when they needed a winger for David Krejci and they traded for Rick Nash. Cassidy in a “joking fashion” brought up Artemi Panarin.
It’s not sounding like Boston would be a free agent destination for Panarin.
To acquire Panarin in a trade the Blue Jackets may be looking for someone like Jake DeBrusk and a top pick. Could the Bruins get the Blue Jackets to take someone like Trent Frederic or Danton Heinen instead?
The Bruins do have the asset to move, but how big do they want to go?
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger of TSN 1050 was if the Boston Bruins would move some of their young assets in a deadline trade.
“When you look at Boston, they’ve got two or three very similar young forwards like Heinen, Bjork,” noted Dreger. “There’s three or four of them that they could part with. These are good players, players that you’d want to hold onto in a perfect world and watch them develop and grow.
“But the Bruins are in it to win it, no pun intended here. They feel like they’re designed to contend for the Stanley Cup right now, and it’s pretty obvious why when you look at some of their aging forwards like Backes and Krejci.”
Dreger continues that they’d like to add and are willing to move assets.
Los Angeles Kings forward Tyler Toffoli may have been a main target before, but likely not anymore. The Bruins could be interested in Ryan Dzingel.
“They’re going to do something, and that’s going to make them even tougher.”
