On the Boston Bruins …
Jimmy Murphy: NHL source saying the Bruins will target defenseman Brian Campbell in free agency. A source that is close to Campbell is saying that he wants a one year, big money contract with a contender.
On the Ottawa Senators …
Dhiren Mahiban of The Hockey News: Bruce Garrioch reported that the Senators could trade Alex Chiasson before the draft. Chiasson’s agent, Kent Hughes, also thinks the pending free agent could be traded.
“I think that’s a potential scenario, but I don’t know if you ever really know if anything materializes until it happens,” Hughes said. “But yeah, (a trade) wouldn’t surprise me.
“I think at the end of the day, for a lack of a better term, it’s the lack of a successful marriage, I guess. You get to a point where you either decide you’re going to say to an organization, ‘move on’ or you’re going to continue to try, but as you continue to do that, your asset continues to diminish in value.”
On the Washington Capitals …
Chuck Gormley of CSN Mid Atlantic: Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said that he will talk to pending UFA Mike Richards agent. MacLellan has said they need to have more speed on their bottom two lines, so it seems unlikely that Richards returns.
“No expectations,” Richards said. “I’m not even sure what’s going to happen, so we’ll kind of hang out for a bit and see what’s going on and go from there.”
If he doesn’t re-sign with the Capitals, it’s unknown at this point if another team would be interested in signing the 31-year old.
“I’ve always known that I could play,” he said. “It’s just, I guess, if the will’s there maybe to continue. I had a fun time here in Washington, I enjoyed hockey again and I’ll kind of decompress and see what’s next.
“I mean, I’m 31 years old, so I’m not old by any means. But we’ll see. I honestly don’t even know.”
