Islanders happy, but lost out on Stone
Arthur Staple: New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello: “We weren’t going to sacrifice our plan here… You don’t do something just for the sake of doing it. We’re pleased with where we are.”
David Pagnotta: Had been told that the Islanders were after Ottawa Senators Mark Stone but they wanted to have an extension in place. Also told that the AAV was lower than what he will sign with the Vegas Golden Knights. Anthony Beauvillier was part of the trade talks.
Flames-Wild trade involving Zucker fell through
Pierre LeBrun: The Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames had been working on Jason Zucker trade but it fell through before the deadline yesterday. Not sure what caused it to fall apart.
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger was asked on TSN 1050 about LeBrun’s and Russo’s report that the Flames had been talking to the Wild about Jason Zucker.
Dreger believes it was a time thing, doesn’t have all the details, but Flames GM Brad Treliving was angry. Not sure if towards the Wild, internally or the league.
“Because I can tell you this – and you know this Craig because you’ve lived it, and things have gotten more smooth over the years electronically – but there was a logjam – as there always is – but there was a jam-up at Central Registry.
“So maybe it was just an issue of the queue being too long. But normally what happens is as long as the trade is filed, they still honor it, you just have to go through the process.
“We’ll dig a little deeper and find out what the backstory is, but I know Calgary wasn’t pleased at all.”
