On the Chicago Blackhawks …
- Chris Hine of the Chicago Tribune: The Blackhawks put Rob Scuderi on waivers yesterday, a move that could save them $950,000 against their salary cap if he clears waivers and is assigned to the AHL. The Penguins are paying a third of Scuderi’s salary, with the Blackhawks on the hook for $2.25 million. The move would give the Blackhawks some much needed cap space before the deadline.
- The Fourth Period: Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman on TSN on Monday on the what the Blackhawks could be looking to do leading up to the trade deadline.
“We’re open to looking at ways to strengthen our team and that could be through (adding) a forward or a defenseman,” Bowman said. “I think we’re pretty strong up the middle, so I think if anything we’re probably looking for a winger more so than a centerman up front.
“We’ve got a lot of young defensemen and they’ve actually played very well, so I like the position we’re in. We don’t have a ton of experience in some of those guys, but they’ve played very well.”
They may not look at acquiring a top-six, but maybe more a depth move like what they did last year with Andrew Desjardins.
“We’re going to look at different things,” Bowman said. “It’s hard to say how it’s going to play itself out, we don’t exactly know which players will be available.”
- David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune: Blackhawks Teuvo Teravainen’s name has come up in the rumor mill. Teams realize how high his ceiling is. A source said that one team is interested in him as center. Haugh thinks that trading Teravainen would reckless and that they would end up regretting it.
“I try not to think about that at all,” Teravainen said. “I just try to think about us winning the Cup again this year.”
