On the Detroit Red Wings and Alexander Radulov …
Aivis Kalnins: The reports that the Red Wings are talking with Alexander Radulov are true. His agent confirms that they are moving closer to a contract. The Avalanche are not out of it, but as of yesterday, the Red Wings are the front runners.
Aivis Kalnins: Can confirm that Radulov has received a one-year contract offer for between $3.5 and $5 million.
Darren Dreger of TSN: The Red Wings are okay with giving Alexander Radulov a one-year contract between $4 and $4.5 million. Sources saying that Radulov is looking for a two-year deal worth $7.5 million per season.
Craig Custance ESPN: (mailbag) If signing Radulov means they are out of the potential Steven Stamkos sweepstakes, they should hold off. The Red Wings need to improve their blueline, so like Stamkos, if signing Radulov means they are not able to sign someone like Alex Goligoski or not make a Kevin Shattenkirk trade, they should hold off as well.
Any potential Radulov deal should be for one-year, and at a number that makes financial sense for them.
On the Detroit Red Wings …
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: (mailbag) Even if the Red Wings trade Pavel Datsyuk‘s cap hit, they wouldn’t have the cap space for both Steven Stamkos (has turned down $8.5 million) and Alexander Radulov ($5 million range). The Wings still need to re-sign Petr Mrazek, Danny DeKeyser and Riley Sheahan. The asking price for Kevin Shattenkirk was Dylan Larkin, which the Red Wings won’t do.
The Red Wings absolutely have a chance with Stamkos if they move Datsyuk’s contract. Stamkos might have an interest in Detroit as it’s not to far from his family in the Toronto area and they are a competitive team already.
Gustav Nyquist or Tomas Tatar could be moved in trade. Darren Helm will test the free agent market and could sign elsewhere. Tyler Bertuzzi may not make the team out of training camp, but if he doesn’t, he could be one of the first injury call ups.
