On the Edmonton Oilers and Patrick Maroon …
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: There is serious trade interest in Oilers winger Patrick Maroon. It’s becoming harder for the Oilers to re-sign him, but they were scheduled to talk.
If the Oilers are going to trade Maroon, they prefer to get a top prospect over a high draft pick. The Boston Bruins and Winnipeg Jets are believed to be interested, with both organizations loaded with prospects.
TSN: Frank Seravalli on TSN 690 on the Oilers and Patrick Maroon.
“I have a pretty good idea where this is heading, and that’s with Patrick Maroon getting a ticket out of town. The fact that no numbers were exchanged should give you a good idea where this stands. I mentioned a few weeks ago that the last time they spoke that the Oilers and Maroon were not close to seeing eye to eye on numbers that could potentially keep him there.”
On the Ottawa Senators and Erik Karlsson …
Sportsnet: Nick Kypreos says he keeps getting told the same thing:
“And that is, don’t be surprised if Erik Karlsson is traded in the next nine days.
Now, Chris you mentioned last week, we know where the Ottawa Senators stand. They want to get the message out that he’s unavailable, but as one NHL general manager told me yesterday, if you not prepared to make him the highest paid player, and there is a belief he could get there, then why wouldn’t you not explore the maximum value on his return.
We know that it’s going to be this trade deadline. His contract doesn’t expire until 2019, teams will be trading for at least two opportunities to win a Cup opposed one at the draft.”
Elliotte Friedman believes that:
“Any GM who is smart to investigate any possibility, I wouldn’t be surprised Nick, if they’re investigating any possibility.”
