Chris Nichols: Darren Dreger on the Oilers: “Chiarelli could be busy, certainly between now and the start of next season. He wants to acquire a winger who can skate w/ Connor McDavid, a defenseman who can help their transition game, and a goalie who’s going to push Cam Talbot.”
Pierre LeBrun: Patrick Maroon‘s agent, Allain Roy, spoke with Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli Thursday night. There have been no numbers exchanged and things are status quo. It is still unclear where things are headed.
Jim Matheson: It wouldn’t be a surprise if six teams made strong offers for winger Patrick Maroon. He’s shown that he’s capable of playing with top players – Conor McDavid and Ryan Getzlaf.
Jim Matheson: If the Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins are interested in Maroon, the Oilers could at Jets prospects Mason Appleton and C.J. Suess. In the Bruins organization, they could look at wingers Peter Cehlarik and Zach Senyshen or center Trent Frederic.
Jim Matheson: If the Oilers trade Maroon and his 20 goals, where are they getting those goals from? They’ve already trade Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle‘s offense.
David Staples: (responding to Matheson) But where are they going to get the money to re-sign him? Can’t see how they can make it work, no matter how much they’d like to re-sign him.
TSN: Darren Dreger on TSN 1260 on Milan Lucic and the Edmonton Oilers.
“When Peter Chiarelli and the Edmonton Oilers embraced the term and the money that was required to bring Milan Lucic to Edmonton, they knew that at some point in the contract it was gonna look ugly. They just couldn’t predict that it would happen as quickly as this,” Dreger told TSN Radio Edmonton 1260.
Lucic can’t play with McDavid and where does he fit in after that. His offense is down and he knows he isn’t living up to contract ($6 million per year).
“What do they do with it? Way too early for that. I think that they’re at least a year out before that becomes a realistic issue.”
