Could The Edmonton Oilers Add on Offense?
Allan Mitchell of The Athletic: The Edmonton Oilers are off to another slow start, and they are a different team than the one that reached the Stanley Cup Final the last two years. We know the Oilers were known for their depth scoring, but that has gone away this year, and they have become more of a four- to five-man team.
NHL Rumors: Tristan Jarry Is Available, but the Edmonton Oilers Would Have Injury Concerns
In addition to their goaltending needs, they could use a little more offensive punch, as Mitchell writes. However, the Edmonton Oilers are up against the salary cap, so Stan Bowman will have to get creative to bring players in to improve the team. Players like Alex Tuch, Anthony Mantha, Mason Marchment, and Kiefer Sherwood could solve the Oilers problems.
What is the Latest on the Vancouver Canucks
Thomas Drance of The Athletic: As Drance writes, the Vancouver Canucks made headlines as they announced that they are willing to move their veterans outside of Filip Hronek and Quinn Hughes. The Canucks are trying to change their dynamic, but any trades for short-term relief will be player-for-player.
NHL Rumors: New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, and Calgary Flames
As he writes, unrestricted free agents like Kiefer Sherwood (whom the team is still looking to sign), Derek Forbort, Teddy Blueger, and Evander Kane will be shopped before the deadline. However, Kane will be tough to trade under his modified no-trade clause. Tyler Myers will draw interest, but has a no-movement clause, so it would have to be someone Myers wants to go so he can win.
And what does this mean for Quinn Hughes? That’s the million-dollar question for Vancouver. There are plenty of options on the table for the Canucks and Hughes. His decision will most likely come this summer, and Quinn Hughes knows only what he wants to do.
Are The Maple Leafs Looking to Change Things Up Again
James Mirtle of The Athletic: As Mirtle writes, this was supposed to be a different year for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Moving on from Mitch Marner was going to make them a tougher team to play against. It was no longer about four or five stars, but about the team. But things have not gone according to plan.
NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, and It’s a Sellers Market
The Maple Leafs won the John Tavares negotiation as he continues to be one of their best players with William Nylander. However, there are a lot of problem contracts still on the team, including guys they brought in like Brandon Carlo, Nicolas Roy, and Dakota Joshua. GM Brad Treliving changed the club’s identity to fit Craig Berube‘s style of play.
Toronto continues to search for answers and will look to move on from the guys they brought in because a coaching change is out of the question right now.
