On Evander Kane …

Kevin Kurz: Evander Kane’s agent said that they are in no rush to talk to the San Jose Sharks about a contract extension at this point in time. He said it’s a “mutual feeling out period.” Sharks GM Doug Wilson basically described it the same way.

Paul Hamilton: Sabres GM Jason Botterill said that decision to not re-sign Evander Kane was his decision and no one else’s. Botterill said that there was zero influence from Sabres ownership with regards to Kane.

On the Columbus Blue Jackets and Jack Johnson …

Steve Gorten: Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen on Jack Johnson’s future with the team: “It’s still a possibility that he’d want to stay here. Who knows? That’s something we’ll have to make a decision on, but that’s in the future sometime.”

On the New Jersey Devils …

Andrew Gross: GM Ray Shero said that at the “price point” they were looking at, there wasn’t a defenseman that made sense for them. Shero wouldn’t name the a player he tried to get on and couldn’t get.

Andrew Gross: GM Shero doesn’t see both Michael Grabner and Patrick Maroon as rental players even though they are on expiring contracts.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Lance Hornby: Maple Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello said he didn’t spend a lot of time on potential trading one of their pending UFAs vs keep them for chemistry they have: “You look at where your team is. If you had the reverse (situation), you’d go out and get players like that and pay a price. You already have them.”

On the Anaheim Ducks …

Lisa Dillman: Ducks GM Bob Murray on their trade deadline: “With all trade deadlines you have to go into it with certain goals and you have to go into it with certain things that you’re just not going to move. And that’s how we did it today.”
