On the Florida Panthers …
- Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Panthers GM Dale Tallon to the CP – they’d be happy to have Jaromir Jagr back next year and that contract talks haven’t started yet.
“Jaromir will let me know. He’s a proud guy and he knows . We don’t have to worry about that ,” Tallon said. “He’ll come to me and say ‘I want to stay here’ or ‘I want to talk about a new deal.’ He’ll let us know.”
- Mike Halford of Pro Hockey Talk: Panthers owner Doug Cifu to the Florida Sun-Sentinel on Andrew Ladd.
“He’s a great player, a character guy, obviously Dale knows him very well,” Cifu said, per the Florida Sun-Sentinel. “I’m not going to comment on discussions, but he’s a great character, a great hockey player, he really is.”
Panthers GM Dale Tallon has said he’d like to acquire a goal scoring forward, and Cifu added that it would make sense if they could add another forward that has some skill.
On the Edmonton Oilers …
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli needs to add a defenseman or two, and a different mix in their top-six.They could trade Jordan Eberle. Taylor Hall? Ryan-Nugent Hopkins?
Connor McDavid, and maybe Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse should be their only untouchables.
- Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1260 on the Edmonton Oilers and Justin Schultz.
“I think they’ll offload Justin Schultz. There appears to be some interest in him. We’ve talked about that before. He’s got no future with the Oilers, it’s as simple as that.
“I get the feeling, and I could be wrong here, the only reason he’s even in games lately is because they feel the need to put him in games to showcase him for a trade. And that given his druthers based on how the year’s gone that if Todd McLellan were just putting six defensemen in the lineup, there’s no guarantee that Schultz would be one of them on an every night basis.
