Mike Johnston of Sportsnet: Panthers GM Dale Tallon was on Sportsnet 650 and said that if they add a piece before the deadline, it won’t be for a rental player.
“Any move that we make will be for the long-term benefit of our franchise,” Panthers general manager Dale Tallon told Sportsnet 650 The Fan Tuesday. “We’re not going to be doing anything that’s a kneejerk reaction just because it’s the trade deadline.”
The Panthers entered last night seven points out of the wild card spot but have a couple of games in hand.
They will focus on players that fill their long-term plan, that will fit in with their young core.
“The No. 1 priority for us is stability and to build up our core,” Tallon added. “We had a lot of flux last year. We changed up a lot of people in the organization on and off the ice and it turned out to be a negative for us.

“I haven’t heard his name out there that much, to be quite honest,” relayed NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun during a Tuesday evening appearance on Montreal’s TSN 690. “But I also haven’t been told by a team that they called and that Montreal has said, ‘Don’t call.’ So where does that leave things. I think that probably leaves things where it should be left on a lot of players for that team – you can’t afford to say, ‘Don’t phone,’ when you’re needing to listen and be open-minded about ways to retool your team headed into September.”
