It’s not the time for the Florida Panthers to approach Sergei Bobrovsky about a contract
TSN: The Florida Panthers have some pending UFAs, including forward A.J. Greer and defenseman Jeff Petry, that could be moved at the deadline, according to Pierre LeBrun. Kevin Weekes wondered this week if goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky could be traded, as he hasn’t been extended. LeBrun notes:
“And you know, it’s not time right now in-season, given his struggles, to approach him about an extension. That would wait until after the year. So keep an eye on that one if Florida doesn’t go on a run here.”
Little activity on St. Louis Blues Jordan Binnington, but there is on some others

NHL Rumors: The Edmonton Oilers Top Priority Needs to be a …
“I’m looking at Captain Brayden Schenn. It seems like his name is out there on an annual basis. He doesn’t necessarily have the stomach for a rebuild. Could he be a fit? But, there’s a lot of traction around veteran defenceman Justin Faulk.”
David Pagnotta: The St. Louis Blues have been trying to trade Mathieu Joseph, and he was placed on waivers Thursday. They hope to move him by the trade deadline if he clears waivers.
The Ottawa Senators continue to look for a right-handed defenseman
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Sources say that Ottawa Senators GM Steve Staios continues to look for a right-handed defenseman and a forward who can play in the top six.
A right-handed defenseman is the top priority, as Dman Nick Jensen has struggled coming off offseason hip surgery. There are not a lot of options right now, and the cost his high.
NHL Rumors: San Jose Sharks Will Be Cautious Buyers at the Deadline
Calgary Flames defenseman MacKenzie Weegar interests the Senators. He has a $6.25 million cap hit through 2030-31. The Sens have also kicked tires on Flames Zach Whitecloud.
The Senators aren’t alone in their search for a right-handed defenseman, as it’s believed the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars and Utah Mammoth are also looking. The Red Wings have shown some interest in Weegar as well.
Sources say the Flames would want a first- or second-round pick and a top prospect or roster player for Weegar.
Other potential options include Brandon Carlo (Maple Leafs), Dougie Hamilton (Devils), Connor Murphy (Blackhawks), Justin Faulk (Blues) and Colton Parayko (Blues).
The Senators don’t have a first-round pick this year. A league executive said that the only prospects that were of interest are defensemen Carter Yakemchuk and Logan Hensler. The Senators are not interested in trading Yaremchuk or Hensler.
NHL Rumors: What Could the Ottawa Senators Use Heading Into the Trade Deadline?
Pending UFAs they could end up trading are forwards Claude Giroux, David Perron, Lars Eller, and Nick Cousins and defenceman Jensen. AHL goaltender Mads Sogaard could get traded.
