On the Goalie Market …

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 on the Calgary Flames and the goaltending market.

“How many teams out there need goaltending? I think Toronto does, Calgary does. We can debate whether Dallas does, maybe Carolina. All of a sudden there’s a surplus of guys. Tampa’s gotta deal with their situation, Anaheim’s gotta deal with their situation. St Louis now, what’s going to be the future there in goal? I think Calgary’s in a good spot – I think you’re going to have the pick of a very good situation.”

Friedman adds that the possibility of an expansion draft could lead to more goalies on the market.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Aivis Kalnins: The Red Wings have stepped up their efforts on Alexander Radulov.

Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 on the Detroit Red Wings, Pavel Datsyuk and Alexander Radulov.

“Well, I think we’re all expecting it, right? That he’s going to end up in Russia. Even Ken Holland this week, I saw one of his quotes was, ‘Would I like it if he came into my office and said, I’ve changed my mind and I’m going to stay. But do I expect him to say that, no.’ And Saint Petersburg was always the team.

“I do think Detroit will try to trade the contract. I think depending on what they’re willing to do as part of that, they will be able to find a partner. But I would them to try to trade the contract.”

Friedman thinks that the Red Wings are most likely team to sign Alexander Radulov. He’s not saying that it’s 100 percent going to happen, but they are trying.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 on the Colorado Avalanche and Tyson Barrie.

“Yeah, it’s nothing fresh. I’ve mentioned to you before I think it’s very likely he gets moved. I think that there are some teams out there who like Tyson Barrie.”

Any Barrie trade would likely happen closer to the draft.
