  • Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun: The Maple Leafs are at least one of six teams that have interest in Sharks Joe Thornton. That doesn’t mean the teams have exchanged offers. There have been reports out of Chicago about a possible Thornton for Patrick Sharp trade. Thornton has a no-movement clause but might be willing to waive it.
  • Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: The “center” trade market contains Ryan Kesler, Jason Spezza and potentially Joe Thornton.Canucks GM Jim Benning has already taken calls on Kesler, but if they move him, the price is high. They may be looking for an asset that can help them now and future assets. LeBrun thinks Kesler still wants out of Vancouver.

Spezza has indicated to management that he’d welcome a change of scenery. Trade talks could heat up closer to the draft.

The Blackhawks and agent Pat Brisson have held preliminary talks with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane:

“I have spoken with Stan a few times already, we’ve obviously talked about extending both players,” Brisson told ESPN.com Friday. “We’re working to get something done by July 1, if possible.”

Talks between the Lightning and Ryan Callahan are ongoing.

Thomas Vanek will test the open market on July 1st.

The Canadiens are interested in bring Brian Gionta back.

“The team has reached out and said they’d definitely want Brian back,” said Bartlett. “It’s a matter of whether the role for the player and the dollars are still a match. We’ll have those discussions with Montreal between now and July 1.”

Former Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford may have entertained the idea of trading Eric Staal, but new GM Ron Francis may not be interested in doing that. Francis could interview up to 10 head coaching candidates, he’s at around six already. Jacques Martin is one of the ones he’s talked to. He may want to speak with Rangers assistant Ulf Samuelsson when the Cup Final is over.

  • Kristen Odland: Flames GM Brad Treliving on their interest in the first overall pick: “We’ll see. You’re managing it all the time. Is it realistic?”
  • Sarah McLellan: McLellan doesn’t think the Coyotes will be looking to trade up at the draft, potentially moving down.
