On the Vancouver Canucks …
Jason Botchford: Canucks GM Jim Benning thinks that Pierre-Luc Dubois could be a No. 1 center. Botchford thinks that if the Cancucks want to add a top prospect defenseman, they might have to trade Jared McCann.
On the Edmonton Oilers …
Bob Staufer: With the Oilers signing Drake Caggiula, it could mean that they don’t qualify one of their pending RFAs from Bakersfield. Don’t be surprised if they add another college forward to add to their organizational depth. Guessing that they would want to add someone with size.
David Staples: With Nail Yakupov on his way out of town, the Oilers could use Caggiula in their top 9, lessening the temptation to use Matthew Tkachuk right away.
On the Ottawa Senators …
Adrian Dater: Hearing that Senators owner Eugene Melnyk has told GM Pierre Dorion that he can make a big money offer for a coach, but it would come off of their internal player budget.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Bruce Boudreau met with Senators GM Dorion yesterday and liked what he heard about from the organization. The Senators were hoping to get their short-list of coaches does to two or three by yesterday.
“I was very impressed with Pierre and Randy and I was comfortable with them but you will have to ask them how it went,” Boudreau said in a text to Postmedia Friday afternoon.
Boudreau was expected to head back to Anaheim today, but if things went well, they could ask him to stay a few more days.
Boudreau made around $1.5 million with the Ducks, and could be looking for more than that. It’s not known if the Senators have reached out to Bob Hartley.
“My daughter lives here, my grand-daughter who I don’t get to see too often and she’s only (18 months) and actually all my family is back East. That’s always a really compelling thing,” Boudreau said. “Ottawa itself is compelling … because they’ve got the opportunity to be a pretty good team and they’ve got a lot of pretty good pieces in place.”
