On Johnny Gaudreau, Calgary Flames and the World Cup of Hockey …
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Jacob Trouba are scheduled to play in the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, and all currently don’t have contracts for next season.
Even though Gaudreau doesn’t have a contract with the Flames, sources confirmed that he will be playing tournament. It is believed that he purchased extra insurance.
It is also believed that Gaudreau doesn’t want to negotiate a new deal with the Flames after he arrives for the World Cup on September 4th. The World Cup could run through October 1st for Gaudreau if they make the final.
On the Calgary Flames …
Pat Steinberg: Don Maloney has been named as a pro scout for the Flames. He’ll be based out of Phoenix and will scout Western teams.

General Fanager: Matt Cullen re-signed with the Penguins, a one-year deal worth $1 million.
Josh Yohe: Cullen said that this would likely be his final season in the NHL.
Bill West: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said that the re-signing of Matt Cullen won’t screw up their salary cap situation for a potential Jimmy Vesey signing – they would have room.
