On the Edmonton Oilers …
Lowetide: Players/Picks the Oilers should consider trading.
- Jordan Eberle – he’s a complementary winger that could land them a defenseman.
- First round pick – could be their top trade chip. If they win the lottery, they could trade down to No. 2 or No. 3.
- Nail Yakupov – the return for Yakupov won’t be great if they move him.
- Mark Fayne – may not ask a whole lot for him. Could use money saved on a UFA like Jason Demers.
- Griffin Reinhart – does have some value and should get some interest.
- Lauri Korpikoski – coach Todd McLellan values him, but if someone ask for him in a package – for maybe a backup goalie – they could move him.
Players the Oilers are unlikely to trade.
- Brandon Davidson – on a fantastic contract.
- Cam Talbot – looks like the Oilers found their starter.
- Benoit Pouliot – could be traded if they Oilers sign someone like Milan Lucic – though it’s doubtful the Oilers sign Lucic.
- Andrej Sekera
- Darnell Nurse
The no-trade list.
- Connor McDavid
- Taylor Hall
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
- Leon Draisaitl
- Oscar Klefbom
On the Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers and Caroline Hurricanes …
Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: A new contract between Mike Hoffman and the Senators may not go smoothly. His numbers will be favored his way in arbitration. Senators GM Bryan Murray said they want to see how Hoffman plays down the stretch before they make a real commitment to him. If the Senators aren’t able to get him at a good number, they could look to move him.
The Oilers could look to move Jordan Eberle or Nail Yakupov this offseason for help on the blueline.
Unless current Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward is willing to work for minimum wage next season, he could find himself out of the league. He’s no longer a starter and teams may prefer younger-cheaper goalies that have potential over someone like Ward.
