On the Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks, and Toronto Maple Leafs …
- Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Darren Dreger on TSN 1260 on Justin Schultz.
“But look, I think back to the Joffrey Lupul trade from Anaheim to Toronto. The Maple Leafs ended up settling – and I use that word carefully – settling on Jake Gardiner. They fought hard for Justin Schultz. Justin Schultz was their No. 1 target in that trade and Bob Murray wouldn’t give up on him. Bob Murray wanted to sign him. Bob Murray and the Anaheim Ducks felt like he was going to be a very good player and a key part of his blueline moving forward.”
The Oilers are going to have to retain some salary if they want to move Schultz.
“I think that Chiarelli is hoping that he can get a player in return. He may not be able to get a player in return because of the qualifying offer. He’s going to have to eat some money. I think that’s fairly obvious. And likely settle on a draft pick. If he’s willing to do those things, then I think Schultz gets moved.”
On the Edmonton Oilers …
- Jim Matheson: Both Teddy Purcell and Justin Schultz were healthy scratches last night. Matheson wonders about Purcell to the Kings or Panthers? Not sure on were Schultz could end up.
- James Mirtle: The Oilers are getting close on a Teddy Purcell trade. They were looking for a second round pick at one point.
On the Toronto Maple Leafs …
- Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: The Maple Leafs could be looking to add to their blueline on July 1st. Some free agent options could be Nikita Zaitsev, Carl Gunnarsson, Keith Yandle, Alex Goligoski and Roman Polak.
- Kevin McGran: P.A. Parenteau said that reports that he’d been told by the Leafs that he’d be trade were a lie.
