Matt Duchene options along with Ferland and Johansson
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: The scenarios involving Matt Duchene’s likely exit from Ottawa are increasing. Duchene and agent Pat Brisson are looking to max out with an eight-year deal.
He can do it by trading then re-signing with a new team. Also, Duchene gets that eighth year if Brisson can orchestrate a sign-and-trade before July 1st. That becomes predicated on Duchene getting traded in the first place.
Marcus Johansson dealt before the deadline would not be a surprise. However, if Ray Shero does not get value, he will hold on to the winger then try to re-sign him.
Micheal Ferland may stay in Carolina but the team is still listening to offers.
Buyers, sellers as deadline approaches
Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: Ottawa makes the biggest impact of this trade deadline one way or the other. While Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel look to be out the door, everyone is waiting on Mark Stone. Stone is a huge chip and would cause teams to wait.
Columbus remains in a holding pattern for now with Sergei Bobrovsky and Artemi Panarin.
The New York Rangers dealing Kevin Hayes and Mats Zuccarello is not a given.
Teams like Winnipeg and Nashville are waiting for the posturing to end to buy.
Boston made a move for Charlie Coyle but may not be done yet.
Dallas as well as the New York Islanders looking for goal scorers still in that second tier.
Washington making one trade potentially (Carl Hagelin?) and may still buy after that.
