On Max Pacioretty …
Louis Jean: Despite the reports, the Canadiens were never close to trading Max Pacioretty.
Bob McKenzie: (mid-afternoon) Nothing going on with Pacioretty and the plan is to keep him at this point. That can obviously change.
Chris Johnston: There “doesn’t appear to be anything to the rumours of Max Pacioretty heading to San Jose.”
Lyle Richardson (Spectors Hockey): Friedman said he believes the Canadiens are trying to trade Pacioretty, but doesn’t believe that he’ll end up in San Jose. The Sharks hope to have a shot at John Tavares, and they’ll also have to sign Logan Couture to an extension.
Pierre LeBrun: Agent Pat Brisson said that he and Max Pacioretty have parted ways – a mutual decision that both sides believe makes sense.
Renaud Lavoie: Allan Walsh is now the agent for Max Pacioretty.
Eric Engels: Pacioretty already trains in Montreal with Octogan/Walsh clients so it’s not a surprising move, but it is interesting.
Eric Engels: Pacioretty would rather stay in Montreal, and wonders if Walsh thinks he can get a deal done with the Canadiens.
Grant McCagg: “I guess the big questions is – did Max change agents to expedite a trade or to try to re-sign? One would assume the former…but as this soap opera goes on….”
Eric Engels: The Canadiens and Kings were talking about Pacioretty before the Kings signed Ilya Kovalchuk. Was told that the Canadiens weren’t close to a deal with anyone else. If they haven’t already started, can expect new agent Allan Walsh and the Canadinens to talk contract.
