The St. Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings …
Andy Strickland: The rumor that the Blues were asking the Red Wings for Dylan Larkin in a Kevin Shattenkirk trade are “humerous and untrue.”
On the Columbus Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs …
Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen thought he had a deal to move down from the No. 3 slot, but it fell though.
“I’m a little bit harder probably on Finns because I want to make sure nationality has nothing to do with our draft,” said Kekalainen, who passed on countryman Jesse Puljujarvi. “I actually thought we had a deal done , but then it fell apart in the last second.
“It was a small trade and small movement back that we thought we had the deal done, but it fell apart and that’s why we picked him at 3.”
The Maple Leafs could re-sign UFA P.A. Parenteau.
On the Ottawa Senators …
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Senators: Senators GM Pierre Dorion first priority is to sign RFAs Mike Hoffman and Cody Ceci to new contract.
“The two biggest priorities, is trying to get a deal with Mike Hoffman done and avoiding arbitration if we can, and the second thing is getting a deal done with Cody Ceci. Hopefully, we see that in the next few weeks with both of them,” Dorion said. “With Mike, it’s the middle to the end of the July, (depending on) the arbitration date with Cody.”
The Senators and Ceci are discussing either a two or six year deal and are progressing. Not much is being said with regards to Hoffman talks.
Don’t expect any big changes to the Senators lineup.
“I like our top six forwards, I like our top four defence. If we’re going to add anything, we’re going to add a role player through trade or free agency or a fifth or sixth defenceman through a trade or free agency,” Dorion.
