On the Boston Bruins …
Joe McDonald: Bruins GM Don Sweeney said they will inquire about Steven Stamkos and could re-visit Milan Lucic.
On the Calgary Flames …
Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald: The Flames weren’t surprised that Matthew Tkachuk fell to them at No. 6.
GM Brad Treliving still has some work to do. They need to hire an assistant coach and sign Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan to long-term extensions.
The Flames could look to buy someone out, Treliving:
“We have an idea what we’re going to do, but I’m not going to make any proclamations at this point.”
Buy out options could be Dennis Wideman, Matt Stajan, Mason Raymond, Brandon Bollig, and Ladislav Smid.
On the Toronto Maple Leafs …
Dave Feschuk of the Toronto Star: Steven Stamkos’ agent Don Meehan talked with Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan for a few minutes in the later rounds of yesterday’s draft. Meehan met with Red Wings GM Ken Holland, and when that meeting was over, he met with Sabres Tim Murray. One executive expects the Rangers to make a big offer for Stamkos.
If Stamkos is looking to play for the team that offers him the most money, he won’t be playing in Toronto.
“And what we’ve tried to do,” Lamoriello continued, “is stay within the framework of that. We’re not going to get off course. But if there’s an opportunity to get better without interrupting that, we’re going to do that. For us not do that, we would not be doing what is the right thing for this franchise. But it’s not going to be something that’s just looked at or trying to do something for today. Every decision is going to be for today, but with tomorrow in sight. We’re not going to get off track, no matter what.”
