The Devils have defensemen available, the Capitals want a scorer, and the Senators didn’t get the goaltending they needed
NHL Media: Elliotte Friedman, when asked about a few Eastern Conference teams who are on the outside looking in. Some are looking to sell, but a couple of others would still like to add.

Mike Rupp: “Has there been a couple teams that have burst on the scene in the last couple of days. Like some that come to mind for me, that maybe have changed as far as, are they going to make the playoffs?
Like a Washington there’s real concern. There’s Ottawa, real concern. There’s other teams that I think are done, like New Jersey. Like we haven’t really heard a ton with those teams. Are you starting to hear more now?”
Friedman: “New Jersey, I started to hear more this week. I think they have a lot of their D out there. Like I heard on the weekend that they had their, all their D out there, except Luke, Luke Hughes and (Brett) Pesci. And I didn’t say (Simon) Nemec, because I just wasn’t sure Michael, but Pierre LeBron reported that Nemec was out there , and I believe that. So it’s got to be the right deal, but it’s not a no.
Washington, I think they’ve generally been pretty careful. I think they kind of look at it as, they’ve been very open about, they think it’s really hard for them to score, and they want to try to find another scorer. I think that’s very hard, very important for them, but those can be really hard things to find.
Ottawa. I think they kicked tires on I think they talked about (MacKenzie) Weegar. I think they talked about Rob Thomas. The one thing I really feel strongly about Ottawa, though, Michael, is that they feel that their goaltending let them down. That they’re a better team than they showed this year, but their goaltending wasn’t very good, and as a result, I don’t think they want to, like dismantle their team, unless it’s for a really good reason.”
