Maple Leafs and Rangers have been talking about some things
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 590 was asked about the Toronto Maple Leafs interest in New York Rangers Chris Kreider.
“I do think the Leafs and the Rangers have been in contact about things,” allowed Friedman. “I do know this: I know that there have been teams who asked about Kreider, and they’ve told me the price was really high. They said if you looked at the Rangers guys who were available, they were willing to accept lower prices on their UFAs – the Hayes and the Zuccarellos of the world – than on Kreider.”
Friedman notes the Leafs aren’t the first team to inquire about Kreider. He’d be a great fit in Toronto. The Rangers have said the price is high since he has a year left.
Teams turning to Hayes and Zuccarello after Duchene trade
Darren Dreger: After the Matt Duchene, some teams are now turning towards Rangers center Kevin Hayes.
Sources are saying that there have been a few teams that have inquired about acquiring both Hayes and Mats Zuccarello.
Darren Dreger: There are a lot of teams interested in Zuccarello with the expected return high draft picks or a high draft pick and a prospect.
David Pagnotta: The Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators are among the teams that have shown serious interest in Kevin Hayes and Mats Zuccarello. Some teams are interested in just one, some interested in both.
Colin Stephenson: Mats Zuccarello on if he thinks his time with the Rangers is about over: “It’s the situation it is, so — I have fun every time I play hockey. I have fun every time I’m in this rink. And whatever happens, happens. It’s nothing I can control… you’ve got to ask some other people if this was my last game here.”

“Hayes, I’ve heard there’s been a few teams asking about him. If Nashville doesn’t get Duchene, I think Hayes could be high on their list.
“Zuccarello has been on fire as of late. I think the action has picked up on him. Teams like Calgary and Dallas, among others.
“McQuaid, we’ve heard everything from Toronto to Tampa for him.
“Kreider, I just heard the ask is really high. The ask is really high for Kreider because he’s got that year.
