On the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, and Buffalo Sabres …

TSN Insider Trading:  Pierre LeBrun: The Oilers could get a low first-round pick for Patrick Maroon.

“However, I think if there is a preference or priority for Peter Chiarelli and the Oilers, it’s to get a top prospect, someone who is closer to making an impact on the Oilers roster as they try to make a quick turnaround next year and be a competitive team once again and so there are certainly teams out there with an abundance of prospects that I think can do that for the Edmonton Oilers.”

The Oilers and Maroon’s agent are expected to meet in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Darren Dreger: The Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins are interested in Maroon, but neither is likely wanting to trade their first-round pick for him, but do have other young assets that might interest the Oilers.

“Meanwhile, Chiarelli could be busy, certainly between now and the start of next season, he wants to acquire a winger who can skate with Connor McDavid, a defenseman who can help their transition game and a goalie who’s going to push Cam Talbot.”

Bob McKenzie: Options for the Flyers if they are looking for a goaltender include Antti Niemi, Petr Mrazek, Chad Johnson, and Robin Lehner.

Pierre LeBrun: A Thomas Vanek trade will likely have to wait until the likes of Evander Kane, Rick Nash, Michael Grabner and Patrick Maroon are moved. Contract talks between the Canucks and Erik Gudbranson are underway and they will get more serious in the next week or so. The Canucks priority is to re-sign him. If they can’t re-sign him, teams will make offers.

Darren Dreger: Teams that are looking for a veteran defenseman could call the Buffalo Sabres about Josh Gorges. The 33-year old carries a $3.9 million cap hit, but the Sabres are willing to retain 50 percent.
