Senators will be intrigued to see what Ceci could bring back
TSN: Darren Dreger says that the package that the Los Angeles Kings got for Jake Muzzin will likely intrigue the Ottawa Senators as to what they might be able to get for pending RFA defenseman Cody Ceci.
“Now, the Ottawa Senators are still in a rebuild mood, so the return absolutely is attractive. There’s been much speculation around Cody Ceci, whether he’s in play or whether he’s not in play. For that return, 100 per cent Cody Ceciis in play. Why wouldn’t Ottawa look for a first-round pick and a couple of prospects or a first-round pick and a NHL roster player for a 25-year-old right shot D-man.”
Pierre LeBrun adds that the Senators will have some competition to deal with as the Carolina Hurricanes are likely going to move one of Brett Pesce, Dougie Hamilton or Justin Faulk before the trade deadline if they can get a top-six forward in return.
Senators may look at re-signing Dzingel
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 960 talking about Ottawa Senators pending free agent Ryan Dzingel. Teams will be interested in Dzingel as teams are always looking for scoring. The return?
“Last year, what did Grabner go for – he went for a second-rounder and a prospect. I think that’s probably the kind of thing you’re looking at, and maybe higher because of the year he’s having.”
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1200 talking about Senators Ryan Dzingel.
Dreger thinks the Senators will try and re-sign Dzingel over exploring a trade.
“He’s going to be more affordable. You need good players to transition from rebuild into a playoff-contending team, and why trade a Ryan Dzingel when you’re going to try and get that player back. Unless – unless – it just becomes a cost issue and whatever Ryan Dzingel is expecting to avoid free agency is cost prohibitive.”
He may not be a top priority since they are talking to the agents for Mark Stone and Matt Duchene and trying to get them re-signed.
“So there’s still the possibility that Dzingel gets traded. I’m not suggesting he’s off the market, because he’s not. But I just feel like recently maybe management has shifted a little bit and is looking at the bigger picture and seeing a – what is he, a 20, 25… well, he’s at least a 20… he might be a 30-goal scorer before the end of the regular season.”
