On the Ottawa Senators …
TSN Insider Trading: Darren Dreger said the Ottawa Senators are still in the waiting mode with regards to defenseman Erik Karlsson. If teams in either conference don’t put together a huge offer for Karlsson, that is fine. GM Pierre Dorion and owner Eugene Melnyk have met and are fine with waiting to the offseason if need be. Speculation continues with Derick Brassard, Mike Hoffman, Zack Smith, and Johnny Oduya.
On the Vegas Golden Knights …
TSN Insider Trading: Bob McKenzie: The Golden Knights definitely aren’t sellers, and they might be buyers. They might be in on Rick Nash and Michael Grabner (aired before Grabner was traded), and looking at all possibilities.
“Now, they have to be careful. They don’t want to mortgage their future too badly; they don’t think that this year is just a one off by any stretch, but having said that, they also have to protect their future assets.”
adds that the Golden Knights are likely one of the teams that have at least checked in on Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson.
On the Boston Bruins …
TSN: The Bruins have traded for defenseman Nick Holden and sent Frank Vatrano to the Panthers. GM Don Sweeney and coach Bruce Cassidy have spoken about team chemistry, which can factor into making/not making trades.
“Adding Holden I think he’s done that and we’ve added some more depth. But after that I do worry about if we subtract somebody from the room. If you’re adding and you’re not subtracting, i.e. future assets, then as a coach you always prefer to go that way. But Donnie will do what’s best and as a coaching staff we’ll take it from there so to speak. But there is a good chemistry with that group…a very good chemistry in that locker room.”
