On the Detroit Red Wings and Pavel Datsyuk …
Aaron Ward: The Red Wings and Pavel Datsyuk are expected to make an announcement tomorrow morning confirming that Datsyuk will be leaving.
Darren Dreger: The Red Wings will look to move Datsyuk’s contract and might have to use Tomas Jurco, Teemu Pulkkinen or a 2nd round pick as an incentive. Steven Stamkos will be a target for them.
Ted Kulfan: The Red Wings, Pavel Datsyuk and his agent Dan Milstein will be meeting tonight according to Milstein.
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: A team that trades for Datsyuk’s contract won’t have to pay the $5 million salary, just assume the $7.5 million cap hit.
The Hurricanes have already taken on Bryan Bickell‘s contract. The Coyotes and maybe the Sabres could be willing to take on the cap hit. Aside from offering up an asset, the Wings could take back a salary in the $2 million range and still have enough room to take a run at Steven Stamkos. The Wings may find the price to high if it were to cost them Anthony Mantha, or Andreas Athanasiou and a high pick.
On the Chicago Blackhawks …
Scott Powers of The Athletic: The Blackhawk have $66 million committed to 16 players for next season, and they’ve been hit with $3.07 in bonus overages generated by Artemi Panarin, Teuvo Teravainen and Michal Rozsival.
“ certainly factors in,” said Maciver, who was attending a press conference to announce a contract extension with AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs. “We still haven’t found out what the number is going to be for next year. Once we get the information about what the cap number will be next year, it’ll certainly give us a little clearer picture as to how things might look for us come September. Until we get that number, we still got some things up in the air. We’ll hopefully have a clear picture by the draft when we know what the number will be.”
On the Carolina Hurricanes …
Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Part of Bob McKenzie on TSN 1260 on the Hurricanes and Justin Faulk to the Oilers or anyone else looking for a defenseman.
“I’d be really hard-pressed to see them trading Faulk. I think he’s a really good young defenseman. You never say never, for the right fit. But I still think even though they have Hanifin, and they’ve got Slavin, and they’ve got some young defensemen they’re really excited about, and they still have veteran guys like Hainsey and what have you; I still find it difficult that if you get yourself a defenseman like Faulk, a puck-mover who’s smart and skilled and all of those things – those guys are hard to find. Just ask the Edmonton Oilers, because they’re looking for one. And if you’ve got one, I’d be surprised if they’re eager to part with one.“
