Trade candidates for the Philadelphia Flyers if they sell

NBC Sports Philadelphia: John Boruk thinks the Flyers will trade forward Wayne Simmonds. Pending UFA Michael Raffl has a $2.35 million cap and shouldn’t be a problem for teams to fit in. Mike McKenna may hit waivers or be traded. Brian Elliott another trade option. The Dallas Stars and Arizona Coyotes might be looking for someone.

Jordan Hall thinks defenseman Radko Gudas could be a trade candidate. He has another year left at $3.35 and is physical, depth, bottom-pairing guy. Raffl is their most likely trade candidate.

Carolina Hurricanes GM talks trade deadline

Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: It’s looking like the Carolina Hurricanes will be active before the trade deadline, but it’s not known yet if they will be buyers or sellers. Defensemen always seem to come up when talking about potential trade candidates.

“We’re talking to a lot of teams,” Waddell said. “We still maintain we have a plethora of defensemen. I feel like with the right player or right package, is something we’d certainly entertain. … It’s got to make sense. It’s got to help us on the ice today.”

Waddell said that they won’t be giving up draft picks or prospects for rental players, preferring to do a player-for-player deal.

Don’t expect the Hurricanes to mortgage their future to win now.

They could use Micheal Ferland as their “own rental.”

Waddell said teams are still figuring out if they are buyers or sellers, especially with how things are in the West.

On trading a defenseman and what they could be looking for.

“More scoring. A centerman. We’d look at maybe a goalie for down the road. I think this year both guys have done a good job for us to put us in our position, but they are both unrestricted at the end of the year. So you’ve got to be careful there. I don’t know what either one of their plans are, so we’ve just got to stay in tune with that.”

The Hurricanes haven’t thought about trading pending UFA Justin Williams. They won’t if they are in the race, but if they fall out, it might be something they talk about.

Once the season is over they will go back to talking to pending RFA Sebastian Aho.
