NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers – Schenn and Umberger

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

Jordan Hall of CSN Philly: Forward Brayden Schenn is a pending restricted free agent and is coming off a career year – 26 goals, 33 assists for 59 points. Schenn is hoping to be in Philadelphia long-term.

“You want to be here long term,” Schenn said. “I believe in this team. I believe in the guys in that locker room. I guess we’ll see what happens, see how it plays out. I’ve been here for, jeez, five years now. If they want to go long term with me, obviously I want to be a part of this team.”

Flyers GM Ron Hextall said that he would be open to signing Schenn long-term, but it is not a given just yet.

“There’s a lot of factors that come into play with term, money, cap,” Hextall said. “So I can’t make a blanket comment right now and say that we’ll sign Brayden to a long-term deal. I would certainly be open to it, but I have no idea right now where that’s headed.”

Dave Isaac of the Courier Post: Flyers forward R.J. Umberger expects to be bought out after a disappointing season.

“I expect one,” Umberger said. “Who wouldn’t after my season? That’s something up to them, their decision. Business side of it, you can’t control that.”

Umberger has a year left on his deal that carries a $4.6 million salary cap hit. He’d carry a $1.5 million cap hit if he’s bought out, which would save the Flyers $3 million on their cap.

“That’s up to Hexy’s decision to make,” Umberger said. “Wherever I’ll be I’ll come in the best shape like I always do and I’m ready just to have a better year. I know I can play better. I know I still have stuff in the tank. I’ll make the best of it wherever I’m at.”
