On the Philadelphia Flyers …
- Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post: (mailbag) GM Ron Hextall won’t be looking for any rentals, and he won’t be mortgaging the future even if someone has term. Mark Streit could be someone he moves, has a year left on his deal.Teams that are looking for depth on the blueline could be interested in Nick Schultz.
If Hextall was offered two 2nd round picks for Radko Gudas, Isaac is sure Hextall would have accepted it.
Michael Raffl is a long shot to be moved.
Don’t think the Flyers are in on Jonathan Drouin.
On the New Jersey Devils …
- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: The Devils were only three points out heading into last night’s action, a tough spot for GM Ray Shero. Sources saying Shero is willing to move Lee Stempniak and David Schlemko if the offers are good.
- Tom Gulitti of The Record: Devils defenseman Eric Gelinas has had some frustrating seasons with the Devils, but admits right now is “the worst it’s been.” He’s frequently found himself a healthy scratch (24 of 60 heading into Tuesday’s game) and hasn’t received an explanation from the coaching staff as to why.
“I guess (head coach John Hynes) likes the way guys are playing,” Gelinas said. “I don’t know. I wish I knew.”
…
“I hear positive things that they (the coaches) see progress and stuff, but then nothing changes,” Gelinas said. “So, it is frustrating.”
GM Ray Shero could move Gelinas at the deadline to help the Devils now, and in the future.
“It’s not really in my control, but I know it is coming,” Gelinas said of the trade deadline. “I don’t know what the team’s plans are or anything. I guess we’ll see in six or seven days.”
Gelinas said that he hasn’t asked for a trade.
“It’s in their hands, really,” he said. “If they still want me, we’ll see.”
