On the Philadelphia Flyers …
- Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: The Flyers should start thinking about being sellers. GM Ron Hextall admitted last week that he already has a plan for the trade deadline.
“I have some ideas in my mind,” Hextall said. “We’ll look at everything as we go along, monitor where we’re at, what our needs are and what people want from us. We’ll monitor everything, then make decisions closer to the deadline.
“If we can get someone who can help us now and in the long term, we’d look at that, but we’re not going to look for someone who will help us just now. That’s not going to happen.”
Prospects won’t be moved at the deadline. The Flyers need to move out some veterans, create some cap and roster space.
Mark Streit might interest a team looking for some power play help. Nick Schultz might interest some teams. It doesn’t look like they will re-sign Evgeny Medvedev.
Nobody would trade for Andrew MacDonald and his $5 million cap hit for the next four years. R.J. Umberger and his $4.6 million cap hit for one more year and a no-trade clause likely isn’t going anywhere either.
