On the Pittsburgh Penguins …
Bob McKenzie: The Penguins don’t have a lot of salary cap space. It’s not a guarantee, but they could still be considering Wild forward Matt Cullen.
Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Penguins could still try to add center Matt Cullen from the Wild, who could be moved to left wing.
They are willing to bring him back for another run at the Cup, and they have just enough salary cap space to do it.
The one main hang up would be that Wild GM Chuck Fletcher may not willing to move him. Trading Cullen to the Penguins would give the Wild a little more cap flexibility.
Multiple sources say this situation will go down right to the end.
The Penguins could be looking for a depth defenseman.
Josh Yohe of The Athletic: The Penguins are now loaded down the middle, but numerous sources saying they are still interested in bringing back Matt Cullen.
Wild GM Chuck Fletcher hasn’t indicated if Cullen is available or not. The Penguins are under impression that as of last night, he’s not available. The Wild are still in the playoff race in the West.
The Penguins are also considering adding a defenseman and a left winger.
A source said on Sunday night that the Penguins were “in the mix” for multiple players covering multiple positions.
On the Winnipeg Jets …
Mike McIntyre: Wonder if the Jets would try to trade for Arizona Coyotes center Max Domi. The organization liked him at his draft and tried to get him. The pending RFA isn’t having a good season – 5 goals and 22 assists.
Scott Billeck: The Jets had two scouts watching the Blackhawks the other night. Artem Anisimov could be an option if they are looking for a center. There has also been speculation about winger Ryan Hartman and Red Wings Tomas Tatar.
James Mirtle: Surprised the Jets didn’t outbid the Maple Leafs for Tomas Plekanec. Wonder what forward they will go after now.
