Scouting the Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Kings

Chris Kuc: Scouts listed to attend last night’s Capitals-Kings game include New Jersey Devils, Minnesota Wild, Arizona Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres and the Dallas Stars.

Scouting the Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks

TSN 1200: Scouts listed to attend last night’s Senators-Blackhawks game include the Winnipeg Jets (2), Nashville Predators, Buffalo Sabres, Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Scouting the Manitoba Moose

Mike McIntyre: The Ottawa Senators head scout was a Manitoba Moose game for the fifth consecutive game.

The Canucks could use some scoring help

Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Sun: The Vancouver Canucks are dealing with six injuries and could use some offensive help before the trade deadline if they want to stay in the playoff race.

If the Canucks were to give up a high draft pick or a top prospect for someone like Ducks pending UFA Jakob Silfverberg, it would hinder their rebuild. Silfverberg would be looking for more than his $3.75 million current salary on the open market.

Canucks GM Jim Benning may not be looking at the rental market and may wait for free agency.

“If we had another goal scorer that would be a big help to our group, but that’s easier said than done,” Benning said Sunday, acknowledging that fix may come via a reasonable free-agency move. “I’m not necessarily looking at rentals. If we’re going to do trades, it’s going to be players who can be pieces of the puzzle moving forward.”

Can the Blackhawks be quiet sellers?

Jimmy Greenfield of the Chicago Tribune: It’s not known now if the Chicago Blackhawks will be buyers or sellers now.

Their team president John McDonough believes they are a playoff team. It may not be a good look for the Blackhawks to trade players that would help them continue their playoff push.

There are some players that they could move though that wouldn’t give off the impression that they are no longer interested in the playoffs: Cam Ward, Gustav Forsling, Slater Koekkoek, Carl Dahlstrom, Marcus Kruger, John Hayden and Brendan Perlini.
