Elliotte Friedman: There were rumblings last night that Vadim Shipachyov, who originally thought would be able to come to the NHL until 2016-17, could be a possibility to now to come over before then.
Aivis Kalnins: Friedman’s report is correct, Shipachov has found a way to sign with a NHL team. Have gotten confirmation that Shipachov doesn’t require a buyout or have to terminate his contract in the KHL if it happens after June 30th.
On the New York Islanders New York Rangers …
Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Source saying the New York Islanders have offered the 32-year old Frans Nielsen a contract worth at least $5.5 million per season, but Nielsen could get at least $6 million on a four year deal. Talks are expected to continue, but the Islanders don’t like their chances.
Onr agent told the Post that he would not recommend his clients to sign with the Islanders because the ice at the Barclays was bad during the playoffs and deemed “dangerous.”
Lightning’s coach Jon Cooper may not be the only coach around the league that thinks Steven Stamkos is more effective on the wing than at center.
The Rangers are expected to talk with Thomas Vanek‘s camp. Might make sense for the Islanders to check in on Vanek as well.

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The cost to acquire top four defensemen is expensive and teams are turning to drafting and developing them. Red Wings director of amateur scouting Tyler Wright:
“Look at the price to get a top-four defenseman in the NHL these days, whether it’s a trade or free agent, you pretty much have to remove a kidney,” Wright said over the weekend during the draft in Buffalo, N.Y. “We have to draft them first and then develop them, and once you get them, you keep them for a long period of time.”
