The Toronto Maple Leafs are holding firm on their asking price for Nic Roy
Frank Seravalli: Sources have said that the Toronto Maple Leafs are asking for a first-round pick and a prospect for center Nicolas Roy. They’ve been holding at that and are not willing to retain salary at that cost. The 29-year-old Roy has a year left on his contract at a $3 million cap hit.
What could Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman be looking for?
The Sheet with Jeff Marek: Jeff Marek and David Pagnotta talking about the Detroit Red Wings and who might GM Steve Yzerman be looking at.
NHL Rumors: Vincent Trocheck and some potential suitors
Marek: “You’re the Detroit Red Wings. And we all remember what happened last year with Dylan Larkin and Steve Yzerman. Larkin essentially saying, ‘Like, Where were the, where were the reserves? Like, you know, how come you didn’t send, send the posse? And Yzerman saying, ‘Well, essentially you didn’t deserve it, and that’s why I didn’t do it.’
But this year, like, the Red Wings deserve it. Like we expect Detroit to do something based on what they’ve done this year, to put themselves in a position to finally get some playoff games in the, I don’t want to call it new rink, Little Caesars arena.
Pagnotta: Maybe they circle in that direction. I think him more so than a guy like (Justin) Faulk. I know for sure that they’ve checked in on Ristolainen a few times, and it wouldn’t shock me if they go back in this direction.
It was like, like I mentioned earlier, it was about Monday, when they didn’t have an answer about Tyler Myers, that they said, ‘All right, we’ve, this has gone on for quite a bit. We’re still in this but if we find another option, we’re going in that direction.’
And Myers actually beat them. They’ve been compiling additional options. They’re engaged in those right now. But it’s not only the D-core, you know, Jeff, I think it’s, it’s up front too.
NHL Rumors: Wild, Rangers, Predators, Bruins, and Canucks
It sounds like center is a priority. I don’t think it’s the be all, end all. If they bring in a winger that fits the top six, they can do that, especially on that right side. I think they can do that. I think they’re going to do probably address both areas. To what degree of player, it’s hard to gauge.
