Craig Custance: Teams are calling the Capitals about RFA Marcus Johansson. The Capitals would like to sign him and talks continue.
Chuck Gormley: GM Brian MacLellan said they’ll be sending qualifying offers to Marcus Johansson, Dmitry Orlov, Tom Wilson, Michael Latta.
Stephen Whyno: MacLellan hopes to get Johansson signed before they go to salary arbitration. His salary cap number and the salary cap will affect a lot.
Chuck Gormley: Things would have to fall into place for the Capitals to re-sign Jason Chimera before the start of free agency.
Tom Gulitti: MacLellan wants to upgrade their bottom-six. They have some players that they could target in free agency or in trade.
Stephen Whyno: MacLellan said there is a normal amount of trade talk, with six or seven teams looking to get something done.
