The Toronto Maple Leafs will try to extend Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton, but if they’re not able to…
TSN: Chris Johnston thinks that Toronto Maple Leafs management is looking at the bigger picture and are gauging the market for some of their players heading into next week’s NHL trade deadline. They don’t have any trade offers yet.
“And the truth of the matter is this, at this point in time, they just don’t have offers on any of the players that would make sense for them to commence selling at this point in time.
But we know a lot’s going to happen between now and next Friday when the trade deadline does happen.”
NHL Rumors: Stamkos, Myers, and the Oilers
If they get any trade offers they deal deem good, they’ll make a move. Believe that Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton could re-sign on what the Leafs view as a fair deal. If they don’t get them signed, they could be on the move. Don’t believe they want to lose either for nothing in free agency.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Bobby McMann are talking extension, but they’re also taking calls on him
Daily Faceoff: The Toronto Maple Leafs and Bobby McMann are talking contract extension with pending forward Bobby McMann, but they’re also getting calls on him as well, according to David Pagnotta. It may take a five-year around $5 million a season to get it done.
Irfaan Gaffar: “Maple Leafs and their situation with Bobby McMahon.”
Pagnotta: “Yeah, there’s obviously trade interest in Bobby McMahon. He’s a pending unrestricted free agent, but the Toronto Maple Leafs like him a lot too. And they’re actively engaged in contract talks right now with, with him and his agent to try to see if they can come to terms on, on an extension.
It sounds like that’s where the focus is at the moment, but it’s not to say that they’ve shut down, you know, the opportunity for other teams to poke around. If somebody blows them out of the water with a significant offer, and that’s something they’re going to seriously consider. And we’ll see kind of how that, how that goes.
I’d imagine something in the five-year range. Five times five, I would have, I would think gets that done. And they extend that a year lower the AAV. That’s what’s going back and forth right now.
Gaffar: “So the Leafs have to know that they’re going to be able to make this work. Obviously, you look at the Leafs, you say, Okay, there’s got a lot of money tied into a lot of guys. How are you able to extend here?’ But like I just said, Cap going up is one, but two, they have to know that something’s coming down the line. Maybe that gives them the flexibility that they’ll be able to go and pull this off.
Pagnotta: “And the other factor too is, you know, they’ve got holes that they need to fill, that they still haven’t filled since last summer. And you look at the free agent pool right now, it’s shallow.
NHL Rumors: Panthers, Blues, and the Senators
I mean, I would prioritize, personally, this is just me, I would prioritize getting him signed. Because to replace that calibre of player, you get a secondary guy that can put up 20 to 25 goals a season. Those aren’t readily available, not in the free agent market anyway, and you’ve got to trade for that. So keep your own asset and try to fill your other holes in other areas.”
